A Mothers’ Day to remember at the Johannesburg Zoo

Are you tired of taking your mother to the same old restaurant for Mothers’ Day? Are you embarrassed of getting her the same type of slippers to thank her for giving you life? If the answer is yes, then the Johannesburg Zoo is the place to be for you this Sunday.

 

City Parks & Zoo has put together what promises to be a memorable Mothers’ Day event at the zoo in partnership with Kaya FM and Spar Supermarket.

 

Mothers and their families will be treated to a concert featuring award-winning Lira, the refreshingly new Maleh and the highly acclaimed Johannesburg Chamber Orchestra conducted by the multi-talented Kutlwano Masote.

 

Lira and Maleh have urged everyone to put on their dancing shoes. The reason for that is obvious.

 

Says Lira: “My mother is my best friend. I share everything with her. Mothers’ Day is the perfect opportunity for us to express our gratitude to our mothers for having done so much for us. Bringing up children is not easy but our moms make it look so.”

 

Masote caught the music bug from an early age. Instead of playing marbles and soccer with his friends in the streets of Soweto, he immersed himself in music, mentored by his gifted father.

Everywhere he turned, there was music, so much so that he went on to study the cello at the International Menuhin Academy in Switzerland.  

 

Joburg’s “Afropolitan” families can look forward to interacting with Kaya FM personalities such as Bob Mabena and Mo-G and other friends of the station, while fun games and zoo tours will keep children entertained.

 

“As a family station, we always strive to create experiences suitable for our Afropolitan audiences, and the Joburg Zoo is a perfect partner to this event,” the veteran DJ said.

 

“As the home of the Afropolitan, we are certain that there could be no better way than spending a day with you mother at Joburg Zoo, admiring the beauty of nature and listening to good music.”

Gates open at 8.30am and the concert starts at 10am. Tickets go for R75 for adults.

 

Pensioners and children pay R45 each. The zoo is wheelchair friendly. Alcohol is not allowed.
