Beauty and splendour as CIDESCO comes to town

13-05-2015

Johannesburg, which has over the years established itself as a premier destination for major international events, will cement its position when it hosts the 63rd annual World Congress of the Comité International d`Esthétique et de Cosmétologie (CIDESCO) later this month.

CIDESCO, the world’s largest beauty therapy association, will host its 63rd annual conference and exhibition at the Sandton Convention Centre from May 20-25 in partnership with Johannesburg Tourism, the City of Johannesburg’s tourism entity.

Hundreds of industry leaders and globally recognised professionals in cosmetology are expected to attend the six-day conference and exhibition, which will be held under the theme: “Skin is Alive.”

With speakers discussing the latest trends, procedures, ingredients, business management skills and financials, the conference is a must-attend event for all beauty and spa professionals.

Globally recognised speakers include Dr Des Fernandes, who will address delegates on micro needling; Dr Ridwan Mia, who will speak on skin grafting; Dr David Arthur, who will give a talk on natural hormone replacement; and Dr Dong Ping, who will deliver a paper on periosteal micro plastic surgery.

Other speakers will be Mandla Quwe, who will give a presentation on sports massage; Baatile Komane, who will speak on the usage of African seed oils in cosmetics; Dr Dennis Rehbok, who will give a talk on treating diabetic clients; Valencia Khumalo, an expert in medical and aesthetic stratifying; Pat Lam, who will speak on nutrition for different body and skin types; and Johnette du Rand, who will address delegates on the benefits of massage for cancer clients.

The city last hosted this prestigious event in 1995. The fact that it is returning to the City of Gold only 10 years after it was held here is an enormous accolade for the country and an acknowledgement of its burgeoning beauty and spa industry.

CIDESCO has a presence in 33 countries across five continents, where it has accredited schools.

“Johannesburg is the vibrant heartbeat of South Africa. We are all excited that it is the location for the 2015 annual CIDESCO conference and exhibition. Delegates can look forward to participating in discussions on key industry issues, networking with colleagues and discovering the beauty of this fascinating country,” says CIDESCO President Anna-Cari Gund.

The annual event provides exciting opportunities for beauty and spa therapists and other cosmetology professionals to come together to discuss the industry’s most important issues, gain new skills and network with one another.

It will also showcase the latest products from local and international suppliers, host several workshops and stage its international makeup competition.

Joburg Tourism’s Laura Vercueil says bringing the CIDESCO Conference and Exhibition to Johannesburg is a major achievement for the City.

“This important association meeting will boost Joburg’s annual rankings for the bidding of top meetings and conferences, enhancing its reputation as a world-class host and showcasing our unbelievable business, visitor and cultural offerings,” she says.

Other major events to be staged in Johannesburg this year include the EcoMobility World Festival in Sandton in October and the Africities Summit, also in Sandton, in December.
