BET Experience Africa Tourism to boost tourism in Joburg

11 December 2015

General entertainment channel BET has partnered with Johannesburg Tourism to stage its exciting new event franchise, the BET Experience Africa, in South Africa this December.

“BET Experience Africa 2015”, is an urban lifestyle festival staged for the first time on the African continent by BET and its parent company, multimedia conglomerate Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa. The event will unfold at the Ticketpro Dome on 12 December from 11 am to 12 midnight.

“Johannesburg Tourism is thrilled to be supporting this event, as it aligns with our strategy to reinforce Joburg’s positioning as an all year round destination for business, sports, lifestyle, leisure and entertainment,” says Joburg Tourism spokesperson, Laura Vercueil.

More than 19,000 people are expected to visit the day-long lifestyle attraction, which will include live music from Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Mary J Blige, AKA, Flavour, Diamond Platnumz, Nathi, DJ Euphonik, Black Motion and Monique Bingham, alongside fashion shows from AFI, inspiring ‘Genius Talks’, a sneaker experience from “Hunting for Kicks”, an extreme driving experience called “Drift Zone”, a stand-up comedy stage and a celebrity basketball tournament.

The partnership will allow Johannesburg Tourism to fulfil its strategy of attracting new visitors to Johannesburg by supporting first-class, immersive events that reflect the city’s rich cultural landscape. While Joburg is the African continent’s business hub and the fastest growing and developing metropolitan centre, what is often overlooked, by residents and visitors alike – is its appeal as a fascinating destination.

Although Joburg is such a youthful City, it’s a treasure trove of economic, social, political and anthropological history. The City boasts layer upon layer of fascinating history, development and human interest stories – of course not forgetting the leisure and lifestyle aspects of entertainment, sports, music, arts and culture. Joburg is one of the world’s most exciting, vibrant and culturally diverse cities.

Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, VIMN Africa, ‘We are delighted to partner with Johannesburg Tourism to deliver this brand new lifestyle event. Johannesburg’s amazing infrastructure, lively cultural scene make it a great location for staging the BET Experience Africa.”

“With its massive global reach into our core markets - including the USA, Europe, Australasia and 48 African countries - the BET Channel provides the ideal platform to promote Joburg as more than a stopover or gateway destination, while also helping to showcase the varied business, leisure, lifestyle and tourism offerings available here” says Vercueil.

BET Experience Africa 2015 is supported by Jo'burg Tourism, etv, Castle Milk Stout and Gauteng Tourism.

Kaya FM is the official radio partner to the BET Experience Africa.
