Chance to enjoy your winter school holiday in the wilds

06 July 2017

School breaks need not be a drag.

That is why the Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo has come up with an exciting holiday programme to put a spark in the lives of the city's learners this winter.

This week - until Friday July 7 - children aged between seven and 13 will have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor adventure, feed the animals and generally have fun and an unforgettable wild experience between 9am and 1pm. At a cost of R85 per day per child, each day is unique.

Parents are asked to pack their children a scrumptious lunch for them to enjoy in the wild. For those who will be unable to make it to the zoo this week, this programme will be repeated between Monday July 17 and Friday July 21.

For more information and to book your child’s place for the wildest fun these school holidays, contact Lebo Moalusi on 011 646-2000 extension 2243 or e-mail her on lebo.moalusi@jhbzoo.org.za. Booking is essential.

Over and above this, budding zoo keepers can join the Joburg Zoo’s Junior Volunteer Programme, an initiative aimed at enriching animal husbandry understanding and knowledge.

The Honey Badger Club is a fun and interactive environmental and educational programme for children between the ages of seven and 14 and offers unique access to and experiences with the zoo’s animals.

For more information on the Honey Badger Club, send an e-mail to Jane Maema atjane.maema@jhbzoo.org.za or fax her on 011 486-0244.

The Johannesburg Zoo is a pristine 55ha green lung that houses more than 320 species. With more than 2 000 animals in its care, the zoo offers visitors the opportunity to view and interact with species from around the globe.
