City to tell a good story at Rand Show

24 March 2016

The City of Johannesburg’s stand at the Rand Show will reflect Joburg’s position as a world-class African city, with its departments and municipal-owned entities on hand to answer service-related issues.

The Rand Show kicks off at Nasrec, south of Joburg, on Good Friday 25 March and runs until Sunday April 3.

“We will, again, have a prominent presence at the Rand Show,” says Matshidiso Mlaba, the City’s Deputy Director of Marketing. The city stand, along with those of its entities, promise to be major drawcards at this year’s Rand Show.

“The Joburg stand is always among the most-visited during the 10 days of the event and we use it as an opportunity to showcase the achievements of the City and engage with residents in an informal setting.”

This year marks the end of the first-term of Executive Mayor Councillor Parks Tau and the show presents a great opportunity for the City to reflect on the past five years of achievements, which include the drafting of the City 2040 Growth and Development Strategy, the launching of pioneering initiatives such as the Corridors of Freedom, EcoMobility, green and blue economies, the catalytic Jozi@Work and Vulindlel' eJozi.

“We have a great story to tell about a city that is leading the country in many fields of service delivery, job creation and youth development,” she says.
Tickets cost R120 for adults at TicketPro or R150 at the gate and R50 for pensioners over 65.

Your ticket guarantees you hours of entertainment, shopping, relaxing, learning new things and having fun with family and friends as gates open from 9am to 8pm.

Two stages will present non-stop science action, with the Naked Scientist from March 25 to 28, and the Kalahari Scientist and Nutty Scientists for all of the show’s 10 days. There will also be the Edudome mobile planetarium, Destructobots 2016 and the first Tech Robotics Challenge, exhibits of fossils and amazing inventions, among other things.
