City’s stand draws big crowds at Beeld holiday show

01 March 2016

Joburg Tourism, the City of Johannesburg’s tourism entity, once again took full advantage of opportunities presented by the Beeld Holiday Show to show off a wide and diverse range of tourism, holiday, leisure and accommodation opportunities available Johannesburg.

The three-day show was staged at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from Friday February 26 to Sunday February 28.

Held annually, the Beeld Holiday Show is a consumer expo that brings together a combination of the best leisure, lifestyle and business destinations and options – all under one roof.

Visitors to the show were impressed by the expert knowledge and advice given by staff manning the Joburg Tourism stand. The entity pulled out all stops to highlight the diverse tourism offerings available across the city – from the legendary Nelson Mandela Footsteps tour that takes visitors from the famous Vilakazi Street in Orlando West, Soweto, to the Shadow Boxer sculpture and Chancellor House in central Johannesburg. And from Constitution Hill to wedding and honeymoon venues spread across the city.

“As the gateway to Africa, many travellers only see Joburg as a stopover destination but there is so much more on offer. There is something for everyone in Johannesburg. The Beeld Holiday Show gave us a valuable opportunity to create awareness about the varied options available as well as to talk to people and interested parties,” said Laura Vercueil, Joburg Tourism’s Public Relations and Communications Manager.

Other offerings showcased at the show by Joburg Tourism included the iconic red bus site-seeing trips and key tourist destinations such as Apartheid Museum; the street cafés of Parkhurst and Parktown North; Lilliesleaf Farm; Hector Pieterson Museum; Regina Mundi Church; Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication; Johannesburg Art Gallery; Mahatma Gandhi Square; and Gold Reef City.

The Joburg Tourism stand drew large numbers of visitors over the three-day period. Visitors said the show was an ideal opportunity for them to explore holiday options, and pick up valuable trip ideas and advice.

“We really enjoyed the show because it gave us as a family the opportunity to see what’s on offer before we plan our annual holiday,” said mother of three Melanie Powell.

“We all have different likes so as a family we collect ideas from the show and plan from there.”
