Excitement mounts around first Children’s Heritage Dialogue

If you are around the Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Kliptown, Soweto, on Friday, September 15, make sure you pop in at the first annual Children’s Heritage Dialogue.

 

The dialogue is a celebration of Heritage Month, which recognises different aspects of our culture and encourages citizens across the country to celebrate their cultural heritage, the diversity of their beliefs and different traditions, language and literature.

The Children’s Heritage Dialogue is an initiative of the City of Johannesburg’s Community Development: Arts, Culture and Heritage in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation as well as Black Motion.

The dialogue aims to promote South Africa’s Heritage throughout the African continent by preserving its rich customs and culture. Furthermore, it seeks encourage children to engage in platforms which instil a unifying spirit of being a true African.

It is expected to attract 4 000 children between the ages of 6 and 25 from various schools and interest groups around Gauteng affording them an opportunity to engage in exciting exchange to enhance their literary experiences.

Some of the highlights of the dialogue will include the use of literature through art, debates indigenous games, career guidance, campaigns against human trafficking and xenophobia as a vehicle for social cohesion.
