Fun family show hits Roodepoort Theatre

An interactive and entertaining show for the entire family!   This is what theatre lovers can expect when they go to watch the Big Bad Musical at the Roodepoort Theatre from 15-23 December. 

 

On Sunday November 6 theatre patrons who attended the opening night of Janice Honeyman’s new pantomime adventure, Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, got a taste of the Big Bad Musical when its cast performed in the foyer of the Mandela's stage at the Joburg Theatre. 

 

The musical tells a court story.   The jury – which is the audience – must decide the outcome of the biggest trial that has ever taken in the fairy tale world.   The notorious Big Bad Wolf is slapped with a lawsuit by storybook characters Little Red Riding Hood, her grandmother, the three little pigs and the shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf – who all want to get even.   The plaintiff’s attorney is Miss Fairy Godmother, while Mr Wolf is represented by The Wicked Witch, who was assigned the pro bono case – a clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.  Included in this funny story are fantastic original songs. 

 

The lead cast includes Mandla Gaduka, well-known for his role as Choppa in SABC1’s soapie Generations; Marisa Drummond, best-known for her roles in popular soapies such as Isidingo, Binneland  and Villa Rosa; and Ziyanda Yako, who has performed in numerous shows such as Footloose, Mulan, Dream Girls, four of Janice Honeyman’s pantomimes and The Colored Museum.  Phillip Hawley, who plays the main character, The Wolf, says this is a fun show for both young and old.

 

“It’s a lot of fun, great script and quite a cool production. It really is a production for the entire family. Good comedy. Kids will definitely enjoy it. It will offer a good perspective on how the wolf felt. This story has two endings – basically like a pantomime,” says Hawley.
