Gogo Moatse finally gets house courtesy of the City of Joburg

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing Cllr Mzobanzi Ntuli, together with Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Human Settlements MEC Paul Mashatile handed houses to nine beneficiaries at the newly launched mega project, Riverside View, situated along William Nicol Drive and sandwiched between Steyn City and Diepsloot.

 

The beneficiaries were part of the ceremonial event that showcased over the 400 RDP units that were ready to be allocated to other beneficiaries from Diepsloot.

One of the beneficiaries was 99-year-old Gogo Mirriam Moatse who had applied for a housing subsidy in 1996.

“It gives me great pleasure that we are able to give Gogo Moatse a house today having waited for over 20 years to receive one,” said MMC Ntuli.

“The allocation of a beneficiary that applied in 1996 also goes to show that we are serious about prioritizing applicants from this era as it has indeed been a long wait.”

The Housing Department is intensifying in its drive to ensure that completed housing units are allocated throughout all our developments. This is the second allocation having allocated at Kliptown Housing Development a week ago.

“We are determined that people are allocated houses as soon as they are completed as we have noticed that if we delay, houses are invaded. This then leads to rightful beneficiaries having to wait while eviction processes are underway,” said MMC Ntuli.

“Even at today’s event we are dealing with such a matter whereby Mr and Mrs Moakakatlela Malatji were allocated a house in 2004 in the Diepsloot development which was invaded. They have waited over 10 years to finally get that which was due to them and I am glad that this problem has been resolved happily.”

Mrs Malatji said she was grateful to finally put to an end a very sad episode in her life. She jokingly mentioned that she would finally give the housing staff of Region A a break as she would constantly call them to resolve her issue. The Riverside View development is an integrated Housing development that upon completion will yield an estimated 9 605 residential units of which 3 332 will be fully subsidised housing multi-storey RDP units, 2 949 Bonded (FLISP)unts and the remaining 3 324 rental units.

This over R5 billion development is supported by five schools (one of which is ready for admissions in 2018), a shopping centre, parks, social amenities and business sites. 
MMC Ntuli concluded: “The partnership between the three spheres of government and the private sector – Valu Max in this case – is what makes the delivery of houses to our people a success. Only in working together are the dreams of our people realised.”
