How to turn your home 

into a flowery work of art 

 

All Johannesburg residents with green fingers should consider visiting the Emmarentia Botanical Garden for the first-ever Johannesburg Flower and Garden Show next weekend.

 

Sponsored by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the three-day show – which will be held from Friday September 26 to Sunday September 28 – is a must for anyone who loves pottering in the garden as well as aspirant gardeners who want to transform their ordinary-looking homes into works of art.

 

Show director Jason Fiddler says the show is a culmination of four years of hard work and “a single-mindedness by the show’s Chief Executive Officer, Mabalane Mfundisi, and I to get the project off the ground”.

 

“Yes, the show has been inspired by the famous Chelsea Flower Show [in England] and we aim to turn this event into a large display of gardens from all over the world over time. We aim to persuade people that gardening is not a chore but a labour of love,” Fiddler says.

The show, which takes place from 8am to 4pm daily, promises breathtaking exhibitions of flower arrangements and gardening, landscaping, talks on flowers, gardening and landscaping, wedding planning in the garden as budding spring flowers bloom.

Children have also not been forgotten. They will have a dedicated play area with amusement rides and slides to ensure the show is a truly family affair. 

 

“This is certainly not a once-off event. We hope this partnership with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo grows into a Jozi legacy project to become a great place for those who have a passion for flowers and gardening to come and exchange ideas,” Fiddler says.

Children and pensioners will each pay R40 at the door.
