How'loween to turn zoo into a frightful wonderland

29 October 2015

Johannesburg Zoo’s highly successful How’loween Day returns this weekend with the biggest and most exciting festival of frights ever seen.

To be part of this ultimate scare test, dress up in your scariest How’loween costume and make your way to the zoo on Saturday October 31.

Held in partnership with Nickelodeon, a leading American basic cable and television network specialising in children's programmes, the festival will transform the zoo into a spooky wonderland of surprises, tricks and treats, frights and delights and much, much more. Daytime fun will include the screening at the Bandstand of Nickelodeon's favourites - the SpongeBob Show, Dora the Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Frightful fun starts when night time descends. This is the time when the various themed zones in the zoo will come alive, teeming with flitting fairies, ghosts and goblins and all things delightfully frightful. Special features in the evening’s lineup include a sneak peek screening of the hilarious vampire movie, Liar, Liar, Vampire; stilt walkers; the Gee Wiz Spooky Wacky Magic Show; and a whole lot more.

Amazing prizes are up for grabs for the best children’s costume. Bring along your candies and loot buckets for loads of fun.

The zoo’s Café Fino, which boasts a vast menu of delicious snacks and eats for your enjoyment, will also be open. You can, alternatively, pack a monster of a picnic basket to enjoy the evening under the stars and among the wild lights on the lawns of the zoo. There will also be a big-screen airing of the Rugby World Cup final between defending champions New Zealand and Australia.

Gates open at 8:30am and entrance is R100 for adults, R60 for pensioners and children (4-12 years old) and free for children under four. Tickets are available online at www.ticketpro.co.za.

The festival itself starts at 10am and goes on until 9pm. Shuttles will be available from Saxonwold Primary School and Zoo Lake.

The zoo's Upper Park Drive parking is at present under construction. Revellers will be asked to use alternative parking at the Military Museum in Erlswold Way and at the Saxonwold Primary School.
