IDP feedback session applauds establishment of Job Seekers’ Desk

Scores of residents who joined City of Johannesburg officials on Friday evening for the Integrated Development Plan’s feedback session listened applauded when they heard of the establishment of a Job Seekers’ Desk in their area.

 

The feedback and engagement sessions are held as part of the City’s plan to involve residents on the next financial year’s budget and planning and to further assess the needs to communities for appropriate implementation of interventions.

Through the 2017/18 IDP document, the City of Johannesburg has contributed to the achievement of significant social, spatial, environment and economic development region wide.

Speaking at Ward 101 meeting, Oversight Head for Region C and Economic Development MMC, Cllr Leah Knott, said that the objectives of the meeting is to give residents an update on the progress made with the 2017/18 budget and to get inputs from residents for the 2018/19 budget commitments.

“The meeting is also held to get pertinent feedback so that we can look at our strategy to address your needs because ultimately it is your document and it serves your needs as a community,” added MMC Knott.

A concerned resident, Sekiwe Ngcangata, stated that Boskruin was a well-developed area but residents of Ward 101 never benefitted from projects in other neighbouring wards and other regions.

In an effort to address issues relating to SMME Hubs, the City has conducted an investigation into the hubs and a plan is in place to ensure that they offer appropriate support. In addition, the Johannesburg Business Forum is being reformulated and will be regionalised in the next financial year. The Chamber of Commerce will also be involved in the process.

The Department of Economic Development will also launch a Job Seekers’ Desk that will link skilled job seekers with the relevant company seeking to fill positions. The JMPD officials are working hard SAPS and community policing forums are also committed to combating crime in the area.

Residents thanked the City officials and the Executive Mayor for the continued commitment in delivering quality services and the work being done on a daily basis in the ward.
