Inner City buildings sale attracts healthy interest

Developers are showing huge interest in refurbishing rundown inner city buildings.

This follows the first briefing session for the 13 properties that are being released for redevelopment into mixed income housing attracted over 50 potential buyers on Friday 27 October 2017.

 

The non-compulsory briefing is part of the Inner City Revitalisation Programme.

Mayor Mashaba has committed the City to working in partnership with the private sector in the quest to speed up development and provide low cost housing in the CBD.

Developers who could not attend the Friday briefing will have a chance to attend another briefing early in the new-year.

Director for Inner City in the Office of the Mayor says the sale of these properties signal a major milestone for the City. “This will fundamentally transform the Inner City. It will provide housing opportunities close to job centres.”

The next briefing session will take place on 12 January 2018 at the Old Council Chambers at the Metro Centre. The closing date for the bid is on 31 January 2018 at 10.30am.

The 13 properties available are in Johannesburg, Farm Doornfontein, Fairview, 80 Wolhuter, Newtown and Yeoville.

The tender documents are available from the City’s Supply Chain Department on the 15th floor of the Metro Centre. To get the documents, you must first pay a fee of R1 000 for each property at the cashier on the eight floor.
