Iqhawe U15 Rugby Tournament set for a dramatic final

05 October 2017

Boland will today battle it out with Western Province in the final match of the Iqhawe U15 Rugby Tournament at the Bill Jardine Stadium in Industria, Johannesburg.

Boland are favourites to win the tournament following their emphatic 50-0 victory against Free State on Monday.

Western Province also booked a place in the finals following their convincing 29-3 victory over the Blue Bulls and promise to be formidable opponents.

The finals kick off at 12:30.

The Carfind.co.za Iqhawe Week brings together U15 development teams from the 14 rugby unions in South Africa. It gives talented young boys, mostly from underprivileged areas, a chance to show case their skills and the opportunity of a bursary to attend a traditional rugby school.

The tournament is endorsed by SA Rugby as an official Youth Week and is hosted in partnership with the City of Johannesburg.

On Sunday, 01 October 2017, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba told guests at a gala dinner for the launch of the tournament that the city supported all efforts to identify and develop talented youth.

“As a City, we support all efforts to develop our youngsters and reduce the high rate of youth unemployment. Our partnership will help nurture talent by developing these youngsters.”

Joburg boys, the Golden Lions, will be in action against South Western District in the build-up to the finals. Locals will hope that the Lions reproduce the form they displayed on Tuesday when they thrashed Eastern Province 26-5 victory.
