Joburg City Parks & Zoo aims for major award

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) hopes to win big in the 15th National Business Awards finals on 16 of November at Emperors Palace.
JCPZ pulled though very stiff competition from peer organisations in the public sector to go to the finals, in the Category Top Performing Public Service.
For a decade and a half, Top Media and Communications has used meticulous research and benchmarking to annually showcase top-performing companies on the national stage and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo stands a chance to join them.
The National Business Awards recognise, among other successes, the innovation and ethical compliance of South African companies and organisations across all industry sectors. The JCPZ’s nomination to the finals shows the dedication, commitment and the professionalism shown by the employees to serve the City’s residents with pride.
JCPZ’s Acting Managing Director; Bukelwa Njingolo and her delegation will be crossing their fingers. This nomination comes after JCPZ bragged about its achievements from 2016/17 annual report and included its recent innovations to attract footfall to its facilities.
“We are very excited that we are nominated to the National Business Awards finals and this is testimony that JCPZ is committed to restoring the integrity of the environment and uplifting the quality of life as well as creating a vibrant and liveable City,” says Njingolo.
The achievements included:
• Receiving an unqualified audit;
• Creating 7086 jobs;
• Developing and upgrading 29 new parks;
• Rehabilitating 31 wetlands;
• Nurturing 60 361 learners through its environmental educational programmes;
• Hosting the first global Wattle Crane conservation;
• Concluding the construction of the new wing of the Veterinary Hospital at the Joburg Zoo to provide animals with world-class care;
• Fostering innovations by installing two Wi-Fi enabled smart benches in the inner City that offers users the opportunity access the internet while charging their mobile devices; and
• Installing CCTV in one of the inncer City parks as a pilot project to reduce crime, while partnering with over 32 resident associations to utilize neighbourhood private policing structure to oversee park safety.
