Joburg Water says water cuts report is false

24 January 2017

Johannesburg Water, the City of Johannesburg’s water and sanitation utility, has denied social media reports that Rand Water has planned water cuts as a result of maintenance work at the Eikenhof pump station.

The message, posted on social media and chat groups, suggests that there will be water interruptions in Roodepoort, Randburg, Northcliff and nearby areas from 6pm on Tuesday January 24 and from 7pm on Wednesday January 25.

The posting lists the following as areas that will be affected by the purported water cuts: Bergbron, Constantia Kloof, Allen’s Nek, Weltevreden Park, Zandspruit, Randparkridge, Olivedale, Sundowner, Northwold, Boskruin, Bromhof, Kya Sands, Bloubosrand, Eagle Canyon, Honeydew, Poortview, Ruimsig, Wilgeheuwel, Little Falls and parts of North Riding.

Other suburbs mentioned are Albertskroon, Albertsville, Brixton, Melville, Emmarentia, Auckland Park, Greenside, Westcliff, Parkview, Fairlands, Berario and Northcliff. The post further falsely claims that hospitals such as Wilgeheuwel, Flora Clinic, Olivedale, Helen Joseph and Chris Hani-Baragwanath will also be without water.

Johannesburg Water says there is no planned water cuts in the areas mentioned and that the information is incorrect and should be disregarded.

The entity says it will always send out a media statement with its logos attached, as well as contact details for more information, should there be water cuts.
