JoburgToday.tv Another window into Jozi’s pulse

02 June 2015

In another ground-breaking development, Johannesburg’s online content TV channel can now be accessed by logging onto the City’s website – joburg.org.za.

Its icon is the third from the top left-hand side of the website. A click takes one into a world of sights, sounds and views.

Through a partnership between the City and BrandTV Media Network, part of the STME Group, JoburgToday.tv is making waves in the broadcast media space. It has since its official launch on April 23 this year attracted more than one million online viewers, not only in Johannesburg but also worldwide, following a 12-month trial run – and the numbers keep on growing.

JoburgToday.tv is the first of its kind in Africa and the current investment stands at R7.8 million, says Adolf Spangenberg, CEO of the STME Group.

“Joburg is a brand. Like any brand today, it needs to communicate its proposition to its brand community, consistently and constantly,” says Spangenberg.

The channel uses the video-on-demand medium that curates, aggregates and presents content online. The STME Group has been in the broadcast business for over 14 years. JoburgToday.tv represents a unique and cutting-edge platform for the City to communicate with the residents and for residents to also have the opportunity to air their views.

The JoburgToday.tv team consists of 27 production, post-production and editorial staff. The number is expected to grow to 52 by the third quarter of 2016.

Spangenberg says the channel is all about how people engage, communicate, live, work and play.

Host Nausheena Mahomed interviews several influential people – members of the City’s mayoral committee, academics, experts in a variety of fields, and ordinary Johannesburg residents.

The channel’s offerings include the CabTalk Show, City News, Daily Show, Leading Opinion, Joburg Tomorrow and City of Dreams.
