Jozi’s singles are hot – survey

We all know that Cape Town has the mountain, Durban the beaches and Pretoria the Jacaranda trees. But what is Johannesburg’s claim to fame? What sets it apart from others?

 

Well, according to a recent study by online dating site www.elitesingles.co.za, the city boasts the sexiest, drop-dead gorgeous singles south of Limpopo River.

 

Josh Snodin of Elite Singles says his organisation looked at anonymous user data to see how South African singles rated themselves on the “sexy” scale. The survey was conducted among 76 000 South Africans.

 

“The data shows that cities with the most attractive singles tend to be the biggest ones. This is either a case of good-looking people living in large cities or a case of large cities being home to people who are confident about their looks,” says Snodin.

 

Johannesburg is renowned for its world-class conference facilities. It will now add this “new feather” to its already highly decorated cap. Joburg Tourism’s Laura Vercueil says the results of the survey are a vote of confidence in Joburg as a “world-class African city”.

 

“The survey confirms what we’ve known all along," quips Vercuelli.

 

"Maybe it’s in our water. Maybe it’s because the original mining town seems to still attract all sorts of fortune seekers,” she says.

Cape Town, Pretoria Pietermaritzburg and Durban round out the top five.
