Jozi@Work to put Region A to work
29-01-2015

Jozi@Work has progressed to a stage where City officials are now detailing available work packages.

Over three days in Region A this week, a combined total of 400 representatives of cooperatives and small businesses attended regional forums at three separate venues where Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo officials tabled two work packages under the unprecedented R1,1 billion empowerment and job creation programme.

The first work package entails the manual digging of graves, while the other is for funeral ushering services, which involves tracing and locating graves, allocating graves and grave-levelling at specified cemeteries.

For both work packages, interested businesses and cooperatives will have to have the necessary equipment to carry out the work, including spades, shovels, ladders and personal protective clothing.

They must also have their own reliable transport.

“When you fill in your expression of interest form, you need to indicate what equipment you have and what you don’t have so that the Capability Support Agents (CSAs) can be roped in to ensure you have all the required tools to get the job done,” Tebogo Motlogelwa, Deputy Director of Planning, Profiling and Data Management in Region A, told would-be service providers at the Diepsloot Youth Centre Hall on Wednesday.

Businesses and cooperatives that are keen on the work packages were urged to complete the expression of interest forms, which must be accompanied by copies of the shareholders’ identity documents, proof of residence and business profiles.

But some of the residents in attendance expressed concern that they might miss the February 5 noon deadline.

“How will we submit the expression of interest forms if we still do not have our company registration documents back from the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission? And who can help us with the writing of business profiles?” a resident asked Motlogelwa.

In his response, Motlogelwa said the City would be able to get the company information from the ID numbers submitted in the expression of interest forms. He added that residents needed to approach the Department of Economic Development for assistance regarding business profiles.

Another would-be service provider wanted to know if Jozi@Work was aimed at benefiting only “comrades”.

Motlogelwa said the programme was an all-inclusive, above-board initiative aimed at enhancing service delivery by getting communities to take ownership of their areas through cleaning, maintenance and repair work.

For these two particular work packages, expression of interest forms should be delivered at number 300 15th Road, Midrand, no later than noon on February 5 to be eligible for consideration.

“When City officials return to Diepsloot on February 25 to table more work packages, we will announce the names of the companies that would have been selected for these two work packages,” Motlogelwa said.
