JPC gives the elderly royal treatment at luncheon

03 December 2015

The menu was fit for kings and queens: rice, beef stew, deboned chicken, boiled carrots, peas and beetroot. A malva pudding and custard dessert was the proverbial cherry on top.

Such was the sumptuous meal enjoyed by about 200 senior citizens at a festive season luncheon in Alexandra on Wednesday December 2.

The party was organised by the Johannesburg Property Company.(JPC), the City of Johannesburg’s property arm, as a token of appreciation for the positive role the elderly have played in moulding society. JPC Executive Manager: Corporate Services Makhosi Tisani, who was representing CEO Helen Botes, said that, importantly, the luncheon was a way of bringing joy to some of the “socioeconomically deprived communities” in the City during this time of happiness and festivities.

“It is also part of the company’s corporate social investment initiatives, which are rooted in the spirit of ubuntu,” said Tisani.

“The elderly are our parents. They moulded us to be who we are today. We truly acknowledge their role in society,” he said.

JPC employees also opened their hearts and donated food hampers to the elderly. The event was graced by several ward councillors, including Joyce Ngwenya, Sinah Gwebu, Chris Mabunda, Ambe Maseko and Lillian Kekana. In her address, Councillor Kekana said a nation that did not respect its elders was lost.
She reminded the elderly about the forthcoming local government elections.

“[Other people] don’t know the value of the vote but we don’t doubt yours,” Cllr Kekana said. Last week JPC threw a Christmas party for more than 120 children at Day-by-Day Daycare Centre in Zone 3 Meadowlands, Soweto.
