JPC, SAPOA join hands to maximise Jozi’s land potential

The Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) – the City of Johannesburg’s property and facilities management entity – will be the platinum sponsor of the 50th anniversary of the South African Property Owners Association’s convention and property exhibition at the Sandton Convention Centre in June.

 

The partnership was announced by JPC Chief Executive Helen Botes at a media briefing at Emoyeni Conference Centre in Parktown on Tuesday April 12.
Botes said the move would help the long-term partners share a number of services, including property portfolio management, asset management, facilities management, property development, property management and outdoor advertising on council-owned land.
Botes said the exhibition would give JPC and SAPOA the platform to engage the industry and stakeholders on the utilisation of municipal-owned land to achieve economic, social, financial and transformational objectives.
At the exhibition, SAPOA will also present a lifetime award for excellence to an individual who has changed the face of South Africa and the property sector as well as journalism awards to honour and recognise journalists who have excelled in covering the property industry. 
JPC has been a SAPOA member for several years.
Botes said JPC now wanted to work jointly with it to engage the property industry on how to access and utilise municipal-owned land
“We’ve worked with SAPOA at these conventions. However, this year JPC has a message to discuss in the form of the supply chain management of the land strategy. We understand that land remains the catalyst that enhances economic growth for all, and therefore we would like to put the debate out there to understand what we as a municipality can do to accelerate this.
“We’ve successfully worked with developers to bring many projects to residents, such as Newtown Junction, 27 Boxes in Melville, Kgoro Central in Sandton, Pimville and Jabulani in Soweto, and the Fairlands Office Park in the Worldwear Shopping Centre.
“The question that we ask regularly is: How can the City assist in working across the value chain and how can we work across the value chain to get JPC service-offering to all stakeholders?
“We’re honoured to have a 10-year project that is a game changer. The focus will be on catalysing other City initiatives, such as the Corridors of Freedom, while optimising service delivery by providing a “one-stop” service point within reach of communities across the seven regions,” she said.
Botes said JPC would also increase the capacity of the Metro Centre and regional offices through its office space optimisation programme, a model that will centralise municipal service offerings and bring services to people.
