Libraries Awards recognize employees who serve residents with pride

Still recovering from being named Librarian of the Year 2017 for the Gauteng South Branch of the Library and Information Association of South Africa, Edith Khuzwayo last night won a Certificate of Special Award for Performance Excellence for her outstanding performance at National level.
Collen Modise walked away with the coveted Employee of the Year Award for the Library and Information Services (LIS) Directorate at the awards ceremony held on 13 December 2017 at the Braamfontein Recreation Centre.
The general worker from Region G was hailed by Nobuntu Mpendulo, Director of LIS as “a model employee who is passionate about his work and shows his enthusiasm in everything he does. In doing so he upholds the image of libraries with pride”.
Mpendulo described Khuzwayo as “an exemplary librarian and a shining light in her community – spreading the value of libraries, reading and education”.
The award ceremony was held to recognize staff members whose consistent excellent performance promotes and enhances service delivery in Johannesburg public libraries.
The Employee of the Year Awards for each of the City’s seven regions went to:
• Region A: Rosina Mmako;
• Region B: Matete Lesele;
• Region C: Gwyneth Perry;
• Region D: Nomfundo Mnguni;
• Region E: Dorcus Sephahane;
• Region F: Radinku Lekoloane;
• Region G: Collen Modise;
Other winners on the night were
• Johannesburg City Library: Rosina Ramalepe;
• Bibliographic and Distribution Services Section: Grace Manyama;
• Service Extension and Resource Development Section: Tsakani Malungani.
LIS employees were joined by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, Cllr. Nonhlanhla Sifumba and Kepi Madumo, Executive Director: Community Development at the event.
