Maftown heights comes to Jozi

23 November 2015

It’s that time of the year again - the sixth annual Maftown Heights festival is upon us.

The festival takes place on Friday, 27 November at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, Johannesburg from 3pm till 3am.

Maftown Heights returns with KFC as a headline sponsor. Other sponsors and partners include: Channel O, YFM, Absolut Vodka, Miller, Red Bull Studios and Slikour On Life.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Maftown Heights… It brings us, as a brand, closer to connecting with the youth and their passion for music. This year we have some exciting new elements to add and we’re looking forward to another exciting hip-hop festival with Maftown Heights, for everyone to enjoy”, says Thabisa Mkhwanazi, Marketing Director for KFC Africa.

The festival has entrenched itself as one of the key events on the South African hip hop scene and one of the premier hip hop festivals on the continent, Maftown Heights offers a line-up of an eclectic blend of the best hip hop 2015 had to offer. The lineup features artists pioneering Motswako in Africa as well as leaders in the South African music industry across the genres of hip hop and Kwaito.

It is Maftown Heights’ mission year on year to unite the Motswako family under one umbrella alongside the cream of SA and African hip hop music. Each year an attempt is made to book as many acts from the Motswako fraternity as possible, and the final Motswako crew added to the line-up is based purely on those that were available for the booking.

Maftown Heights’ move to Mary Fitzgerald Square this year is testament to the growth of the festival over the years. The expected turnout at this year’s festival will be approximately 13 000 people. See below the artists set to perform this year.
