Mayor Tau launches City’s Heritage and Tourism Month

02 September 2015

It is spring – that time of the year when Johannesburg not only welcomes new beginnings and celebrates its heritage but also braces itself for a season of fun and entertainment from the top drawer.

The City’s Heritage and Tourism Month was launched by Executive Mayor Councillor Parks Tau outside the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein on Spring Day, Tuesday September 1.

The Executive Mayor said Johannesburg had every September become “the place to be” for both local residents and international travellers because of a host of cultural and entertainment activities that the City has to offer.

The activities include the Arts Alive International Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival and the Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival.

At the launch, the Executive Mayor was flanked by Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development Councillor Chris Vondo, T-Musicman General Manager and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Producer Mantwa Chinoamadi, Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition’s Themba Maseko and Arts Alive International Festival Manager Roshnie Moonsamy.

Mayor Tau said the City had recommitted itself to preserving, recognising and celebrating the uniquely South African culture and proud heritage.

He said the arts and culture scene would continue to flourish in the country’s most recognisable urban jungle for many years to come. He expressed confidence that Johannesburg had the experience and top-notch infrastructure needed to pull off the events.

According to him, it is now more important than ever that the City’s strategic thrust shifts up gear by presenting the world with an inclusive package that groups the City’s various arts and culture offerings under one umbrella.
