Rea Vaya services now live on Google Maps

16 January 2018

Information for passengers about Rea Vaya services is now available on Google Maps.

This means City of Johannesburg residents and visitors can use Google Maps to get information on Rea Vaya bus routes, bus stops and stations as well as next bus times.

To find out how to access your public transport journey with Rea Vaya, use your internet browser and go to Google Maps or use your smartphone to access Google Map App and choose the public transport option.

“Adding Rea Vaya services to Google Maps is another step for the City of Johannesburg to become a smart city,” said Member of the Mayoral Committee of Transport Cllr Nonhlanhla Makhuba.

Google Maps allow commuters to do point to point search anywhere in the City of Joburg. Commuters will be offered the opportunity to carry out their journey using different modes of public transport.

The results show detailed information allowing commuters to select between different journey options based on their own preferences.

“This will also be a great help for visitors and tourists who are used to using the public transport functionality in other cities around the world,” added MMC Makhuba.

This is a partnership between the City of Johannesburg, Google and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport. This project lays the foundation for adding other modes of public transport as well as real-time tracking of public transport vehicles on Google Maps. It will also enhance the accuracy and usability of public transport.

Residents and passengers can still continue to use the VayaMoja app to plan their journey. Download the VayaMoja app from your app store for free and get information on Metrobus and Rea Vaya bus times, routes and fares.

Rea Vaya website, www.reavaya.org.za, Facebook/ReaVayabusTransit and @ReaVayaBus on Twitter are also available for use.
