The City of Johannesburg’s Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) personnel in Region C spent a day earlier this week engaging with residents of Randpark Ridge and helping them to clean up the area between Christiaan de Wet Road and Beyers Naude Drive.
The initiative was part of the City’s ongoing Integrated Community Outreach Programme (ICOP) which was developed by the regional team.
Several departments and municipal entities (MEs) took part in the campaign. They included the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, Health Department, Johannesburg Water (JW), Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo, Pikitup, City Power, Revenue & Customer Relations Management Department, Land Use Management Department and Building Development Management.
The JRA and JW outreach units engaged with members of the community at the Randridge Mall, while City Health Department officials provided free health screenings and medical advice. The Revenue & Customer Relations Management personnel were on hand to attend to residents’ billing queries, while CRUM’s Integrated Service Delivery Unit handled general service delivery complaints.
According to Cecile Retief, CRUM’s Community Engagement Officer, several inspections were also conducted by officials on “problem properties” along John Vorster Road. General road maintenance and the repair of damaged sign boards were also done by JRA and Gautrans.
“Other services rendered on the day included the distribution of ward profile flyers, removal of illegal posters and goods, removal of felled street light poles, litter-picking, grass-cutting and tree-pruning,” said Retief.
According to her, the main objective was to bring service delivery and citizen engagement closer to communities. The programme also sought to make people aware of how best to register complaints and queries and encourage them to comply with bylaws and maintain a clean, green and safe environment.
“The Region further makes use of such engagements to create an awareness with residents on various programmes and initiatives launched by the City,” said Retief.
