SANDF shoots to the top at the mayoral charity golf day
It was all smiles in the camp of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) Education Trust as they pocketed R1.8 million from the 2014 Joburg mayoral charity golf day. The City of Johannesburg held the annual mayoral charity golf day on Friday 03-October-2014 at Randpark Ridge Golf Club.
Executive Mayor Mpho Parks Tau expressed delight at the support that the mayoral charity golf day is receiving from the sponsors and all stakeholders involved.
The 10th Mayoral Charity Golf Day presented a perfect opportunity for Joburg’s businesses and civil society to join hands and raise funds for those in need.
“It couldn’t have been for a better course than the fundraising drive of the SANDF Education Trust launched by the Chief of the SANDF, General Solly Shoke in October 2013. It is indeed a good gesture that the City of Johannesburg recognizes the work that the SANDF is doing for all the citizens of our country.
They leave their families and stay in foreign countries, not even sure if they will ever see their families again, all for the love and patriotism of this country,” said the mayor
Accoding to the member of mayoral committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development Nonceba Molwele, the Mayoral Golf Day is an instrument through which the City extends a hand of support to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. Beneficiaries include organisations operating in the City of Johannesburg that support orphans, vulnerable groups, child headed households and destitute families.
General Shoke expressed gratitude to the City of Johannesburg for the contribution the City has made towards shaping the future of the kids of the SANDF members. “This is indeed the City that cares for its residents, but it has gone beyond their jurisdiction and landed a hand in the whole of South Africa. Your token of appreciation will go a long way towards building future leaders of this country,” he added
Dignitaries who attended the event included Collins Chabane, Minister of Service and Administration and Irvin Khoza who has an honorary rank of Colonel in the South African National Defence Force. Khoza pledged R500 000 to make the R1.8million total money raised on the day.
The day ended with the handing over of cheques to various beneficiaries, including the 2013 mayoral golf day beneficiaries such a€s Days of Live Home Based and Care Givers Project; Boitshoko CHBC; Mofolo Home Based Care; Footprints Hospice (Soweto Retired Professional Society); Isizinda Sempilo Organization; Countrywide Uncedolwabantu Project and health service provider, Mary’s Community Centre; Prunecor Orphans and vulnerable Children, Vumani; Emuseni Community Project and Jantho Health Campaign.
