Special treats galore for Jozi moms on Mother’s Day

11 May 2017

Sunday May 14 is Mother’s Day and some of the City of Johannesburg’s entities are sparing no effort in making the day a special and memorable one for mothers.

Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo (JCPZ) will stage a star-studded concert at the Johannesburg Zoo in their honour, while Johannesburg City Theatres will lay out a sumptuous three-course meal at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba is among a host of prominent personalities expected to grace the concert at the zoo, where stars such as Vusi Nova, Watershed, Louise Carver, Bongani Radebe, Brent Harris, Jam, Jono Johansen and the Cool Catz will perform.

The Mother’s Day Concert at the Zoo has been taking place annually for the past 25 years with more than 10 000 people attending every time.

“For the first time, Joburg Zoo has partnered with Hot 91.9 FM and e.tv to celebrate all Johannesburg mothers by giving them a special treat,” said JCPZ Media Liaison Officer Noeleen Mattera.

She urged residents to treat their mothers to delicious food and drinks, including craft beer, at the five-hour concert.

The show kicks off at 10am and runs until 3pm. Tickets for the live concert are available at R100 each for adults and R70 each for children. Adults and children who prefer to watch the concert on large TV screens will pay R85 and R60 each for their tickets respectively.

A supervised children’s entertainment area will also be set up to allow mothers to fully enjoy the concert. The entry fee includes parking.

For those who want to give their moms a break from the kitchen and spoil them rotten, the Stages restaurant at the Joburg Theatre offers a three-course meal, served in a secure and safe environment in a delightful autumn sun.

What’s more, they can tuck into their buffet – served between 11am and 4pm – while being entertained to a live performance. With an optional theatre ticket, they can watch The Tenors Live show from 3pm. Prices range from R145 each for children without the optional theatre ticket to R510 each for adults who want to watch The Tenors Live show.
