Style and creativity at glamorous fashion show

Melrose Arch was transformed into a fashion wonderland over the past three days, with critics, buyers, fashion entrepreneurs, media representatives and fashionistas making sure they take their seats at the 2015 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Joburg (MBFWJ).
The autumn-winter closet showcased opulence, creativity and glamour, with dramatic courtier statements from local fashion gurus such as Gavin Rajah, Suzaan Heyes, Fabiani, David Tlale, Marianne Fassler and Lumin.
The premier annual Joburg fashion extravaganza, which is spearheaded by the Africa Fashion International (AFI), ended on Sunday March 8.
The landmark annual event fosters creative and artistic talent while showcasing the world-class talent of local designers.
The City of Johannesburg, in partnership with the AFI, hosts the glamorous event every year, bringing the attention of international fashion and design heavyweights to the city and to showcase the talent of local up-and-coming designers.
AFI Group Marketing Manager Sizwe Nzimande says Joburg’s vibrancy makes it the ideal destination for an international class event such as the MBFWJ.
“Johannesburg has the energy and buzz that have made it a centre of Afropolitan identity. As one of the world’s leading financial centres, it offers creative freedom to designers with the economic and commercial opportunities rarely available in other African urban spaces,” he said.
Fassler is never one to disappoint. Her dramatic lines and fanciful silhouettes from denim and soft textured fabrics stood out.
Tart’s fashion showcasing was exciting, trendy and peppered with a rock ‘n roll theme inclusive of dramatic golden shimmers and bold prints.
Heyes is a fashion sweetheart. Her opulent but demure and unpretentious styling once again revealed a dramatic collection of flowing trains and caped garments that received overwhelming applause from the audience.
