Time to laugh your lungs out at the Soweto Theatre

23 May 2016

There will be fun galore on Wednesday May 25 and Thursday May 26 when the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani hosts the ninth annual Soweto Comedy Festival, featuring the finest and funniest comedians from KwaZulu-Natal.

The two-day bash is headlined by Simphiwe Shembe, he of the Simphiwe Shembe Comedy Connection, 99% Zulu and All Star Comedy Jam fame.

Other performers are Comics Choice award winner Sifiso Nene (Baby Mama Drama, Blacks Only and 99% Zulu); South African Traditional Music Awards winner Tsoro Thutshini (99% Zulu); Durban’s Funniest Twins Amawele Ase Chesterville (99% Zulu); Jay Boogie (99% Zulu); Justice Kubheka (99% Zulu) and Thenjiwe Mosley (99% Zulu, The Best Medicine London, The Best Medicine Berlin and Bitches Be Back).

“This is an ensemble of the funniest minds from KwaZulu-Natal. They are comedians who have made a name for themselves both at home and abroad,” says Soweto Theatre’s Kedibone Mulaudzi.

“They promise to dish out hot gags based on current affairs, their take on KwaZulu-Natal politics, their observations, adulthood, being black and memories of their childhood upbringing.”

The shows start at 8pm on both nights. Tickets range from R120 to R150 per person and are available at sowetotheatre.com or at Soweto Theatre, Webtickets.com, Pick n Pay supermarkets, Joburg Theatre and ProMusica Theatre in Roodepoort.

You can also call Soweto Theatre on (011) 930-7461 or Joburg Theatre on (011) 877-6800 to reserve your tickets.
