Watch a free film over the festive season in Jozi

14 December 2015

Johannesburg residents who missed the previous screenings of epic films such as Long Walk to Freedom and have not forgiven themselves for that have a golden opportunity to watch the flicks at a number of venues across the city this festive season – for free.

Starting on Friday December 11, the City of Johannesburg will screen a wide selection of films in seven venues across the City.

The screening will wind up on Saturday December 19.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development Councillor Chris Vondo says the Jozi Holiday Film Screening initiative is part of the City’s drive to promote Johannesburg as a preferred film destination. He says film development is an important contributor to Johannesburg and South Africa’s economic growth, which will benefit the youth, in particular. Local films expected to be screened include Hear Me Move, Long Walk to Freedom, Invictus and District 9.

These regional screenings are aimed at encouraging Johannesburg residents to form film clubs. They also serve as a feeder to the inaugural Johannesburg Film Festival. The Jozi Holiday Film Screening schedule is as follows:

  • Friday December 11: Tshepisong Library Hall and Dobsonvile Ext 1 Hall;Saturday December 12:

  • Cosmo City Multipurpose Community Centre;Monday December 14: Rabie Ridge Multipurpose Community Centre;Tuesday December 15: Dieplsoot’s Roof Top;Friday December 18: Alex Skills Centre; andSaturday December 19: Orange Farm’s Skills Centre.
